Italian term or phrase: bisarni e piagge
Description of a painting (which I do not have) showing "Divagazioni del fiume che danno vita a bisarni e piagge"
I need help on both terms (so will post a request for piagge separately). As we are talking Tuscany, could be a local term perhaps? One might be an oxbow lake or similar?

Explanation:
This is only a translation help, as I see that on this institutional website "bisarni" are river bifurcations, locally defined "bisarni".

In the end I used both Alessandro's 'bifurcations' and Lucrezia's (secondary) 'river beds' - I am sorry I could not give everyone who answered points, as all were very pertinent!

flood plains

Explanation:

river beds

Explanation:
bisarni = alvei = river beds
