Gli ingegneri ritengono che le rocce appartengano ad un’unica successione stratigrafica, negando ogni possibile ‘raddoppio’ di serie per ricoprimento di falde.

come posso tradurre il raddoppio di serie per ricoprimento di falde? Significa semplice negando che si sia formato più di uno strato? avevo pensato a "denying any possible nappe overlapping" ma non so se il senso è lo stesso.

The engineers believe that the rocks form part of a single stratigraphic sequence, and do not, therefore, comprise an overlap sequence.

That's all you really need here. Even though the overlap would probably have been caused by some fault activity, I'm not sure we can infer folds/nappes/thrusts etc. without any other information

La capisco in questo senso, che il 'raddoppio di serie' si contrasta alla 'unica successione stratigrafica', cioè, che le falde non si sono ripiegate su di sé.

A questo punto, sotto la critica notata da Patricia, sarebbe necessario cambiare "geological folding" in qualcosa di più generico, e qui il suggerimento di Paola sembra ottimo, "due to overlapping/superposition", in quanto non implica nessun processo geologico particolare.
