Explanation:
A bare, rocky landform, criss-crossed by these grikes (trenches) (caused by co2 dissolving the limestone) with the flat pieces of rock in between known as the clints

agree  xxxMr Murray: Probably along these lines depending on the precise location and formation. This would describe a type found in France, but if this is the formation in the Trieste area, I might use more generic terms like 'weathered' and 'bouldered'.
