Underground room (secret/hidden underground room)
Explanation:
In several Google images and websites it appears that rooms described as "cunicolare" are built underground or in walls etc.

This word must therefore come from the word "cunicolo"
"cunicolo
sostantivo maschile
(galleria) tunnel, underground passage
(tana) burrow."
http://www.wordreference.com/iten/cunicolo

These (following) are not direct translations, but both texts describe the underground maize of walkways at Atlanta airport:
"The concourses are connected by an UNDERGROUND Transportation Mall, which begins at the main terminal and passes under the center of each concourse."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hartsfield–Jackson_Atlanta_Inte...
"Un ininterrotto snodarsi CUNICOLARE di metropolitane che conducevano a miriadi di gates differenti ti permetteva di ricarti dappertutto..."

This is the most helpful answer but I know the room is not underground because there are windows. I think Lorraine's answer seems to work. But thanks for all the research. I have added Lorraine's suggestion also to the glossary

secret passage

Explanation:
It might help to know if this was a place of concealment or a private exit. I agree with Lara's fine explanation and examples but she might have overlooked the obvious interpretation of 'cunicolo' which she herself provided as 'underground passage' by then going on to call it a room.
