Italian term or phrase: R. Ambulatorio
The following is part of a bibliography: I need to know what the "R." stands for?

Mei, Aldo (medico)
Contributo allo studio del lipoma sottocutaneo - (R. Ambulatorio medico chirurgico italiano in Bengasi, Cirenaica)
Milano - F. Vallardi, 1910 (Stab. Riuniti D'arti Grafiche)

I have the same problem with
"R. Scuole italiane"
in a text that describes where the Jews in Libya at the end of the last century sent their children to be educated...

It is probably extremely obvious but I just can't get round it!!!
Can anyone help?

Notes to answerer
Asker: Hi Chiara I think you could be correct....so would you say "Royal"?

Peer comments on this answer (and responses from the answerer)
agree  Julia Campbell Hamilton: I think "Royal" would be good. Alternatives like "the King's School" or "His Majesty's Clinic" seem rather too 'British'!
