Italian term or phrase: See phrase
I can't get the hang of the first phrase, 'evolutosi...fortificata' in this sentence:

Evolutosi poi in sede di corte agricola fortificata, le recinzioni lignee vennero sostituite con opere in pietra (IX secolo) e alla pratica agricola si affiancò una modesta attività siderurgica

and it's about the growth of a small village in Tuscany

Thanks. You translated more than I needed but I liked your turn of phrase. Also, I prefer farming village rather than court

Subsequently (it) evolved into being site/center of a fortified rustic court

Explanation:
The subject lacks, because it is implicitly assumed from the preceding phrase. (And it's the village itself, I can gues).

"Agricola" refers to "agrarian" in the meaning of "rustical".

"Corte" is a feudal court.

Hope it's clear enough, now :-)

neutral  fgb: the subject of evolutasi is "recinzioni lignee"

-> Nope :-( "recinzioni lignee" is subject to "vennero sostituite" and together forms a dependent phrase!

agree  Gian: Corretto! Il soggetto probabilmente è il villaggio o il suo nome
