agree  philgoddard: This whole long sentence could basically be translated as "118 is the number used to call an ambulance".

neutral  dandamesh: no, non è proprio per niente così. Il 118 è una centrale(CO, Centrale Operativa) che opera una sorta di triage. Certo, per chiamare l'ambulanza fai il 118, ma non è detto che te la mandino. Il testo ha un senso più ampio

agree  luskie: o qualcosa del genere... il 118 non si usa x contattare gli osped., nel senso che quando chiami il 118 tu non vieni messo in contatto con gli osped.. sono gli operatori del 118 che gestiscono le chiamate in arrivo e, se è il caso, chiamano loro gli osped.

  -> Grazie! Finalmente qualcuno che sa come funziona! e qualcosa del genere è pure quello che penso io perchè non trovo di meglio. Far capo significa far da referente ma se metti "contact" sembra che passano la chiamata e ci parli direttamente con gli ospeda
