Still with Ospedale degli Innocenti (not for much longer, I hope) in Florence.

From the general tone the use of 'one' as the pronoun does not seem out of place, and I think there's also a need to convey the author's (mock or othewise) reticence in making their observation. HTH.

this fool first of all suggests that entering this buliding creates a feeling of subjection (highly debatable) and then tries to say how courageous s/he is by not feeling subjected. Where's my revolver?
