this is a piece about man's creative urge/the role of our past plays in creating art, among other things.

Here's some context:
" L’uomo scaraventato in un ambiente ostile ha fatto della necessità di sopravvivere, arte.
Per nutrirsi è diventato chef; per rifugiarsi, architetto; per coprirsi, stilista.
Per comunicare ha dato vita a letteratura, musica e a tutte quante le arti visive.
Alla riproduzione ha preposto l’arte di amare.
Sedotto dalla sua stessa arte, l’essere umano delirante d’onnipotenza, si è procurato **lo scollamento dall’essere del mondo**, schiantandosi contro l’armonia di un mistero che inevitabilmente gli sopravvive."
