Italian to English translations [PRO]
Art/Literary - Journalism / Editorial
Italian term or phrase: svacco
This is a word from an editorial in the Corriere della Sera. Here's the paragraph for context (the editorial laments the vulgarity in the speech used by Italian government officials):

Senza arrivare all’anacronismo bacchetto ne dei «pofferbacco» o dei «maramaldo». Ma ci sarà pure una via di mezzo tra il bi zantinismo forense da Prima Repubblica e l’intemperanza da bar, tra l’allusività in punta di fioretto e lo svacco.

Thanks.

neutral  Mirra_: not only, as I said it has got a double meaning. The positive one deals with fun and pleasure... Se preferisci che assecondi la tua lettura: ozio padre dei vizi, e che adesso i vizi siano noiosi... be' magari solo dopo un po'...

slackness

Explanation:
I think "slack/slackness" might convey the right idea of lack of care, laxitude involved in "svacco" in this context. HTH

slugginesh

Explanation:
è difficilissimo da tradurre!!!

e anche guardando in giro non mi viene in mente nient'altro di meglio

il problema è che 'slugginesh' va bene per quanto riguarda le connotazioni negative del termine ("cialtroneria") ma non per quelle positive (pleasant relax)

cmq visto che nel tuo caso è usato unicamente in senso negativo dovrebbe andare bene :)

ah, as a note, is it possible to know how you translated the rest of the text? Many other words are very tricky and I am really curious to see (and learn ;) wich expressions you used to translate words like 'bacchetto', 'maramaldo', or, 'poffarbacco'.
thank you very much :)
