Explanation: The De Franchis legal dictionary uses the French word "Préfecture", since the "prefetto" is generally translated as "Préfet" (because of the similarity between the French and the Italian systems). But I think English people would not be able to understand so you need to explain who the "prefetto is, and I would say "local governor" or "local authority".
