These are mainly blue-chip companies, They are inspected by the regional offices of the agenzia delle entrated. In simple terms BIG tax payers.

No longer. A quick Google shows me that now a turnover of "just" 200 million euro is sufficient to be classifed as a grande contribuente. Nevertheless, "major taxpayer" is still a good translation. A translation liker "large" or worse "large-size" would suggest a size of trousers or shoes. Not very appropriate!
