misdemeanours/petty offences Explanation: Art. 39 Reato: distinzione fra delitti e contravvenzioni I reati si distinguono in delitti e contravvenzioni, secondo la diversa specie delle pene per essi rispettivamente stabilite da questo codice. Namely, "contravvenzioni" are punished by "arresto e ammenda" (and "supplementary" punishment), but not incarceration, and are a "less serious" class of offence. It would be a bit time-consuming to provide a full list of "contravvenzioni" (the entire third volume of the Italian Penal Code is dedicated to this task)! |
