Asker: Yes, I'd first though of 'during cross-examination' but on reflection think the more generic 'proceedings' slightly more appropriate - but thank you so much for your help!

neutral  claudiocambon: Contraddittorio to me is the overall due process in which both parties are heard, and allowed to address each other's claims. So in a sense you are right, but I would opt more for something along the lines of "during the proceedings."
