Most residential care institutions in the UK which provide residential social serivces are not state bodies, which leaves only the field worker services run by the state. The official term, written into EU and therefore also UK law for 'co-operativi sociali' is "social co-operatives". They provide social services. When I saw it happen, I didn't like it for exactly the same sort of reason you are posing. If you look at the list, many of the "organizzazioni di volontariato" will probably be community groups, but not all and many of the "enti di promozione sociale" will be community groups, but again not all. This is a classic example of the weak interpretation of the Sapir Whorf hypotheses where translation is impossilble without a page of explanatory footnotes for each page of translation, because of social differences (in this case, just a question of different laws with different classification systems". |
