Italian term or phrase: filiera della venericoltura
I'm a little confused!
I know that:
filiera= textile factory
and
venericoltura= clam fishery
Here in context: "...attivitĂ  economiche legate alla filiera della venericoltura"

Clarification request(s) and response
simon tanner: 6:03pm Feb 27, 2008: Hi Anne. Filiera means the production chain in this context
simon tanner: 6:05pm Feb 27, 2008: see Italian wikipedia, under filiera: Con filiera si intende l'insieme delle aziende che concorrono a produrre, distribuire e commercializzare un dato prodotto alimentare.
Anne Woodall: 6:18pm Feb 27, 2008: Thanks! - I'll think I'll go with "clam fishery" and deal with the production chain in another part of the sentence. I got waylaid with DeMauro - only mentioned textile-related production.

This seems valid. I get a lot of google hits from clam fisheries too, though...a US/UK difference?

clam production chain

Explanation:
as said in my note, filiera is production chain, or something similar
Not overly sure about my suggestion, though, because the phrase gets no google hits, although "fish production chain" seems perfectly acceptable:

perhaps there's a different expression for clams!
