I prodotti di protezione oggi sul mercato sono a base delle seguenti fibre ad alte prestazioni: aramidiche (Kevlar® di DuPont, Twaron® di Akzo-Nobel), HPPE (Dyneema® di DSM, Spectra® di Allied Signal), LCP (Vectran® di Hoechst-Celanese).
Queste fibre sono impiegate da sole o insieme con fibre tessili come PES, PA e cotone e non tessili come acciaio inossidabile e vetro.
La fibra aramidica è oggi la fibra leader per questo mercato con 700 tonnellate (che copre il 90% del mercato) seguita dal polietilene ad alte prestazioni con 100 tonnellate e dal polimero a cristalli liquidi con poche tonnellate.
