Italian to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Manufacturing / plastics
Italian term or phrase: melasso
I am looking for a translation of the term "melasso" which in my text means some king of plastic derivative
I can only find the translation "molasses" but I can't find that being used in anything other than a culinary sense in English (if I'm wrong please provide me with an explanation or reference)

Context: text about materials used to make surfboards:
"... le caratteristiche della tavola, in resina epossidica/poliestere e fibra di vetro o carbonio, o titanio, o kevlar, alluminio,in plexiglass o o polistirolo trasparente ed altri materiali di origine plastica come il melasso)"

I think the molasses is used as a glue/redsin for the manufacture of surf boards. Check these key words on the web: glue resin surf board

Notes to answerer
Asker: And molasses can definitely mean some kind of plastic derivative in English? I can't find evidence of this anywhere

Asker: Thank you for trying to help, but I am still unsure. Molasses is a by-product of the sugar refining process (not plastic refining process as far as I can see) - things that can be made from molasses include ethanol, rum and other types of alcohol, so I still don't see how that relates to plastic and how it would be used as a component of a surfboard
