Asker: Grazie per la risposta. La ricerca terminologica che avevo condotto portava a tre diversi termini tecnici, tutti tratti da fonti ugualmente valide. Dal momento che il testo faceva riferimento a un processo di doratura riguardante manufatti antichi, credo che questa sia la risposta più precisa. Grazie ancora!

I agree some dictionaries give burnishing or polishing for brunatura, but I think the technical term is hot (or cold) bluing.

neutral  rfmoon: "bluing" is an electrochemical process that relies on the oxidation of iron to form a protective coating. It is not used for guilding. Thanks for the vote of confidence :o)
