Italian term or phrase: il quarto di pantalone
On a machine for creasing/pressing pockets which are then transferred to another machine - the "macchina attaccatasche".
Posizionare il quarto di pantalone sulla macchina attaccatasche (vedi manuale specifico) e premere il pedale nero.

Does this literally mean the back half of one leg, i.e. a quarter of the trousers? Is there a correct way of saying this in English?

yes it does refer to the back part where the pocket is attached. In a trouser pattern there are 4 pieces - two front- two rear... so : one quarter.
