Normal breath sounds are soft and low pitched and caused by the flow of air through the bronchi and alveoli. These breath sounds are termed vesicular; they are heard through inspiration and fade away during expiration. Types of normal (well) and abnormal (ill) breath sounds are shown in Figure 4. The ATC should listen for any abnormal breath sounds, including the following sounds:
