Italian to English translations [PRO]
Medical - Medical (general)
Italian term or phrase: parole e non parole
I can't quite understand what this term refers to.
This is regardng somebody suffering from slurred speech, mental problems etc.
La ripetizione e la lettura di **parole e non parole** risentono, in parte delle difficoltà disartricha sopratutto per quanto riguarda la parte finale delle singole parole.
Again, I always GREATLY appreciate all the suggestions.

English translation:words and non-words
Explanation:
In this study we investigated spelling of words and non-words in cerebral palsied individuals, including speechless (anarthric) as well as dysarthric subjects.

The experiment examined the patient’s ability to process spoken words and non-words. Patients heard a mixture of 80 words and 80 pseudo-words and made a speeded lexical decision to each stimulus.
Reaction times (RTs) to real words negatively correlated with an area in the left temporal pole, including the inferior and middle temporal gyrus. RTs to non-words were negatively correlated with a similar region of left temporal cortex. RTs to both real words and non-words did not correlate with signal intensity in the right temporal cortex despite the presence of lesions in this area.

After listening to the synthesized string of syllables for the full 20 minutes, adults were played some of the invented words along with some words made up of syllables from the beginning and ending of words—like “ty-ba.” More than 85 percent of the time, adults were able to recognize words from non-words. Five-year-olds also reacted definitively to words and non-words, showing that the human mind is wired to statistically track how often certain sounds arise in relationship to other sounds.
