Monia Di Martino: I would avoid "follow up". It seems as something has happened before to which a visit followed. This another visit, probably of many previous other ones.

Joseph Tein: Dear Mihaela ... one doesn't 'perform a visit'. One performs an examination! (See my discussion above) // OK!! ... I see that the expression is used ... but still it's very infrequent compared to 'performing an examination' Ciao.

-> I think that 'had a visit' is fairly common (at least in US English and I'm not sure about UK). I see now that 'perform a visit' is also used, but it sounds quite foreign to me and I don't find many hits when I do an internet search.

JudyC: Come across this after ages... "visita" and "controllo" are always a problem. My impression is that it's used in this context in Eng to indicate "a follow-up appointment" (the patient "visits" the facility/the doc examines the patient) (clear in M's ref)

-> Hi Judy, nice to "see" you. I think the word "visit" stems from the same root as "vision" I think the doctor "visits" the patient is equivalent to the doctor "sees" or examines the patient. tient.
