- compensatory measures to support weaknesses by strengths:
- stimulate motivation by the gifted child’s natural curiosity
- teach the child how to connect different areas of knowledge thus creating a mental knowledge-web
- give the child a quiet place where it can verbalize - whispering - its task
- try to give a visible structure by associative thinking: mind mapping etc.
- dispensatory measures:
- try to reduce written production
- assess important subject matter orally
- model working in a structured way; after quite some time these children learn how to structure complex tasks themselves
- if possible create a separate corner in class in case the child prefers to work quietly to avoid distraction
- agree on measures meeting the child’s need of movement.
