I was thinking to translate "sheared" but I'm not sure it's correct in this context.

Potrebbe esser anche giusto, ma in un senso ben ristretto perchè "slitting machine" taglia solo in senso longitudinale e così "slit" o "slitting" sono gli sfridi che provengono dalla cesoia a disco. Nella domanda invece si tratta degli sfridi che provengono dalla cesoia per rottame, perciò questi sfridi possono esser chiamati solo shearings perchè ha un senso più generico, cioè, metallo tranciato. Questa è una cesoia speciale per rottame, viene soprattutto utilizzata per forni elettrici in cui (soprattutto in quegli di ultima generazione) il rottame deve esser tagliato anche in pezzi di una certa dimensione. |

materials to enhance economic value or to improve the handling of
materials. Processed scrap metal includes, but is not limited to scrap
metal which has been baled, shredded, sheared, chopped, crushed,
flattened, cut, melted, or separated by metal type (i.e., sorted), and,
fines, drosses and related materials which have been agglomerated.
(Note: shredded circuit boards being sent for recycling are not
considered processed scrap metal. They are covered under the exclusion
from the definition of solid waste for shredded circuit boards being
recycled (Sec. 261.4(a)(13)).
