Mining & Minerals / Gems | | Italian term or phrase: lavanderia | | This text describing mining in the late 1800s refers to several large 5 story structures- "lavanderie". It occurred to me that perhaps this is not a "laundry room" but something else that I am ignorant about in the mining world- perhaps a boiler room? Does anyone know what role a "lavanderia" had in coal mining facilities? Is it really a laundry room or part of some technical process related to the mining? thanks |
