disagree  Victoria de Diego: Wikipedia definition says a leading tone is related to tonality (the note that leads to the tonic). Another name for "nota di volta" is fioritura and is not always related to the current tonality of a musical piece

Turning

Explanation:

In the second link there is a table explaining the different terms for a melodic analysis. It shows V for turning note... can be "V" for upper turning note and "v" for lower turing note.
The english definition macht also the italian definition in the following website: http://michelbaron.phpnet.us/ita/i-h-etrangeres.htm

disagree  writeaway: none of the references back the answer and 2 out of 3 have nothing to do with vocal technique. in over 9 years of training as a singer (opera), I never heard of a 'turning note'

fioritura/fioriture

Explanation:

(Caussade, Vol.I, par. 334 pag. 229).

fioritura - understandably confused with coloratura but meaning almost the same thing; taken from "fior" which means "flower" in Italian, fioratura refers to the actual flowery, embellished vocal line within an aria. All coloratura sopranos have to sing fioratura at some point or another, but there is no such thing as a fioratura soprano.

neutral  Jim Tucker: OK, possible, but the main problem is that "fioritura" is much broader. "Turn" is the most common specific term for this embellishment. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turn_(music)#Turn

-> maybe turn is used more for instrumental music. Really never heard it for voice
