Italian to English translations [PRO] Other / Military Courses | | Italian term or phrase: allievi maniscalchi | In line with my previous question, I have a problem with translating the above phrase. The paragraph is describing military courses offerred in the early 20th century and the only context I have is this:
Anche alcune regioni organizzano periodicamente corsi per allievi maniscalchi
Any ideas?
Thanks once again for the help!! |

| | Field Marshal Cadets | Explanation: "Field Marshal" is the highest rank in the British Army and in several other armies as well. I have found an example of the usage of the term "Field Marshal Cadets" in an Italian website:
"The visit of the Allievi Marescialli (Field Marshal Cadets) from the Scuola Aeronautica militare in Caserta..."

According to the Italian Dictionary for the third millennium one of the meanings of "maniscalco" is "marescalco".

The meaning of "marescalco" is "ufficiale o alto dignitario delle corti medievali".

P.S.
The defintion of "field marshal" is "an officer of the highest military rank in the British and certain other armies."

According to the online dictionaries of Garzanti one of the meanings of "maniscalco" is "marshal" and "marshal" means "maresciallo". "Maresciallo" is translated as "(ufficiale) marshal; (gb) "field marshal".

Therefore I think that in your context selected cadets are trained for service as marshals. They are the future marshals (i.e. cadets training to become marshals). |
