I am translating a text on Cavalry and I cannot figure out a proper translation for the above phrase. The following is the entire paragraph.
"E queste teorie sono intuite in una continua e amorosa osservazione quotidiana dei suoi tanti cavalli e messe in pratica con meravigliosi salti su sciabole tese orizzontalmente o attraverso semplici fili spinati, su una normale sedia o sui giganteschi sieponi del galoppatoio, sulle tavole imbandite o al di sopra delle carrozze, a dimostrazione della giustezza delle sue intuizioni."
Explanation: they are talking about the different types of obstacles or "jumps" for his horses to jump over ; messe in pratica con meravigliosi SALTI.
Then they describe some of these:
su sciabole tese orizzontalmente = a fence of pointed sabres stretched horizontally
semplici fili spinati = simple barbed wire
su una normale sedia = a normal chair
giganteschi sieponi del galoppatoio = huge hurdles from the riding track (maybe meaning the race track, like the steeplechase)
tavole imbandite = banded planks (with stripes painted on them)
o al di sopra delle carrozze = or over carriages
