My logic is not so much on the semantics of the words as empirical knowledge that the "plastic and metals" bin is not recycled but as "dry refuse" just goes to a different tip from the all-in bag.

I agree with your semantic logic Jim. However, this is a recent growth area in the UK. We don't have communal bins in the street as Italy does but I have 3 "recycling bins", green for garden and food waste, blue for paper, card, plastic and tins and grey for the rest. It is just the term that has been adopted by the public and the authorities, though no doubt "separated waste" is used sometimes in industry documents.

I'm hardly an expert of waste, but the reason for sorting and separate collection of waste is not just to recycle it, but for different types of disposal. Are you sure there isn't a term used in UK Russell? And even if there isn't a term "recyclable" could be inaccurate.
