"It's now becoming clear that some types of diseases can spread more rapidly and widely than we anticipated," said Chris Mundt, a professor of plant pathology at OSU. "This makes it especially important, in some cases, to stop a spreading disease quickly if you hope to stop it at all."

Non credo che 'diffusive' sia sinonimo di 'contagiose' in questo caso.

"8. In order to ensure the rational development of this sector and to increase productivity, aquatic animal health rules should be laid down at Community level. These rules are necessary, among other things, in order to contribute to the completion of the internal market and to avoid the spread of infectious diseases.

diffusive

Explanation:
various online dictionaries (eg Hoepli, Garzanti) have diffusivo=diffusive, also 'malattia diffusiva' comes up about as often on Google as 'diffusive disease'.
The link below draws a clear distinction between diffusive and contagious animal diseases, so whilst 'contagious' sounds plausible I don't think it is actually correct. HTH.

neutral  sarahca: The instances found on google of "diffusive disease" tend to be translations. I have never heard this term used in English. As is so often the case, the dictionary translation has nothing to do with actual usage.

Based on the Ministerio della Salute document included in Oliver's answer. This is in actual fact a "vector-borne disease". Please compare the descriptions in the link below and that of the Ministerio della Salute: http://www.ciesin.columbia.edu/TG/HH/veclev2.html

Diffusive disease is used in translations only and is NOT used in native English documents.

in which case the correct translation would be "contagious and vector-borne diseases" (obviously both kinds are infectious)

However, "infectious and contagious diseases" is used more generally to cover all types of infectious disease, which as I say also include vector-borne diseases". If the document is general rather than specific, I would therefore stick to my orginal answer". ;)

neutral  Oliver Lawrence: whilst this seems very plausible, I don't think this is actually correct (see my link below, which distinguishes between 'diffusive' and 'contagious') :)
