|Italian term or phrase: La sua piu spiccata connotazione ...|
|La sua piu ... e ancora oggi rappresentata dalla suo interdisciplinarieta, da un lato ...|

To this day it is characterized by an interdisciplinary approach
it all depends on whose connotation it is; is it a person, a field of study, an object?
You could use "distinctive feature"
I would turn the sentence around as above; spiccata is subsumed by "characterized"

Today, its defining feature is still an interdisciplinary approach
You could use "most characteristic" or "outstanding" for "spiccata" if you wanted to be more literal.
This looks like a description of a corso di laurea/diploma from a university prospectus, in which case "defining" would be appropriate.
