Italian term or phrase: abbattersi
Ciao!
potete aiutarmi a capire cosa vuol dire abbattersi qui:

to let it slide/forget about it/move

Explanation:
within the available context, I interpreted that the father had woken up the kid from his sleep and was not about to let to let it slide/forget about it/move (referring to something that the boy had done earlier or that somehow involved the boy).

sorry I meant to write move on

I see, I would say 'Da come suo padre si aggirava per la stanza':
1) he seemed to be up to something
2) it did not seem as if he was not going to let it slide
3) he did not seem to want to let it slide

Notes to answerer
Asker: The father is angry - incazzato - because a dog is barking in the village. So he wakes up his son and later he tells him to go and kill it. I could copy here a longer part of the text, but am not sure if it's ok re copyright... Is it?
