Italian term or phrase: Certe nostre inclinazioni..,
I need hep with translating the following passage from ove a 100 years old paper by Benini, an Italian psychologist. I know what it is about, but autopmatic translation does not provide me with a usable one. If you can, please help.
I am not a translator of Italian, I just encountered the quote and would like to know what it REALLY means

Certe nostre inclinazioni che si credevano soffocate e spente da un pezzo, si ridestano; passioni vecchie e sepolte revivono; cose e persone a cui non pensiamo mai, ci vengono dinanzi

Certain proclivities of ours... (see)

Explanation:
... believed to have been stiffled and extinguished for quite some time, reinstill themselves... etc.

The rest is quite straightforward. . Since it's THAT Benini, I used a slightly old–fashoned "certain proclivities of ours"

neutral  Jim Tucker: "propensity" would be more accurate than "proclivity," which has connotations of objectionable behavior; in any case, note that "inclinazioni" are stronger than "inclinations", as your answer here also suggests

-> Yes, Jim, iI thought about using propensity, but decided to keep the "leaning" root of the original rather than introducing a new "hanging" one.
