You haven't given us much context (we don't know what comes before or after this), but it's a very long and waffly sentence which could be reduced to something much shorter. You could leave out "A tale proposito è interessante riportare la testimonianza che in occasione di una ormai lontana rievocazione storica" and just say something like: "On the subject of the Coppa d'Oro delle Dolomiti, the great rally driver of the early 1950s xxx once said..."
We know that it's "ormai lontana", and that it's a "rievocazione storica", because it's the 1950s.
