Italian term or phrase: non ha simulato la sua ignoranza degli avvenimenti
Context: Lori capisce di aver perso tutto: la figlia, l’amicizia e la stima del senatore, l’amore della moglie adorata, la sua stessa dignità personale. Un senso di amarezza, rabbia, vergogna e desolazione lo amareggiano al punto di pensare di vendicarsi del miserabile Manfroni portandolo alla rovina, ma capisce l’inutilità di rispondere al male con il male e, invece, preferirà trovare un’altra strada: coglierà ugualmente l’affetto della figlia non sua, di Palma che, riconciliatasi con lui, comprenderà che il finto padre, in buona fede, non ha simulato la sua ignoranza degli avvenimenti.

Explanation:
difficult to get a grasp on the tenses here. I am reading these Italian futures as futures in the past with "would" in English and the "ha" as had. However, a dramatic presence might be more appropriate.
