Italian to English translations [PRO]
Art/Literary - Poetry & Literature / Foreword to a book of poetry
Italian term or phrase: abbraccio
C’è sempre qualche difficoltà nell’introdurre un poeta di una lingua tanto diversa (l’autore scrive in arabo e in ebraico) dalla nostra. Ma proprio perché abbiamo conosciuto la gestualità, l’abbraccio, il modo di muoversi di molti poeti arabi invitati al Festival, voluto e creato da XXXX nel 1994 contro l’intifada, con XXXX Costa abbiamo deciso di pubblicare questo volume e correre il rischio, passando anche da traduzioni inglesi e francesi.

Could I use embrace here?

hugging

Explanation:
I have seen many Arab people hug each other when they meet up. I don't understand the problem with "gestualita" as this is not the same thing.

Example sentence(s):
  • "The Arabic body language is very rich and has many variations in different countries..... Kissing on the cheeks among friends is considered normal in men, HUGGING too is another sign of friendship and trust. "
  • "The hug - If a HUG is initiated by an Arab, then it is a sign that you are considered a trustworthy friend. "
