ground floor room
Explanation:
I've been living in Tuscany for 3 years and the first time I came across that word ('fondo') I was puzzled !!

It'a local (i.e. regional) word meaning both 'basement' and 'ground floor room'. Not really popular outside Tuscany !!!

13 RE tosc., cantina o altro locale che sta alle fondamenta di un edificio

In Tuscany these days you get "fondi interrati" (basements) and "fondi (al) piano terra" (ground floor rooms)
