I have always used the term "mobile phase gas" when dealing with GC. I am assuming that the above is a reference to the same. Seeing on Google that "transport gas" and "mobile phase gas" have about the same number of hits, is there any risk of ambiguity in using transport gas in place of mob. phase gas?
