Italian to English translations [PRO] Sports / Fitness / Recreation / skiing techniques | | Italian term or phrase: diagonale | Abbandonai i futili tentativi di curva e raggiunsi la valle con **diagonali** e inversione di scaletta.
A text about someone trying to ski in fresh snow without a clue about what to do. He is, however, very skilled in slalom, downhill etc, so only fresh snow is a problem.
I thought 'diagonali' could be 'diagonal strides' but it is a cross country skiing term and may not be right here.
The skier is trying to reach the bottom of a steep slope with fresh snow but cannot curve.
Is 'diagonale' another way of saying 'spazzaneve' by any chance?
Any skiing experts out there?
thank you. |

'TRAVERSING
While on the slope, you will want to move directly across the Fall line. The act of traveling across a slope is called Traversing. Unlike ploughing which only uses the inside edges of your Skis, Traversing will be using both the inner and outer edges. In this way, the Ski that is higher than your other Ski will be using its outer edge and the lower Ski will be using its inner edge. When traversing, you will find it is easier to maintain balance if you keep your Skis wider apart.'

'To "Traverse" is to ski in a direction across the fall line instead of skiing down the hill.'

"SCALETTA:

It is what is called 'sidestepping' in English, I believe.
