I "intuit" that these are sort of irregular flat "flakes" of stone used for dry stone walls - can anyone suggest a professional correct translation for this? Many thanks

Sheets of beola (a variety of gneiss)
Explanation:
I happened to see a leaflet by a beola manufacturer: they used sheet to describe exactly what you mean.
Consider it!

Thank you for your prompt reply, Susan! However, they use "scaglie" because the rocks are not regular in shape. Maybe "sheets" are too squared! Anyway we'll see other suggestions from our colleagues...

Thanks, Paola, but I'm not really satisfied that sheet translates scaglie in the context and no one seems to have come up with anything better! Many thanks anyway

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks Paola but I doubt that sheet would translate "scaglie". However I'm interested to see that beola appears to be beola in English too. Don't know how far I trust the translation into English of your beola manufacturer's brochure, though! Will wait for more suggestions...
