[BTW The reason why it's not 'patch panel' is because a patch panel is where a short lead (wire, cable) is attached to a much longer and wider system - especially, telephones. Most fixed line telephones are connected to a 'patch panel' (wall jack) on a wall. A 'distribution' is for much longer and multiple connections. (see web reference 1)]
