Explanation:
I have never heard of sbassatura but because it has been places besides "scarnitura" (skiving) and seems to be an integration to the skiving action, I thought that thinning could be a solution. Sbassatura sounds like "make it lower, thinner".

so....it should be "skiving and thinning" of leather.
