This is exactly what I was describing in my suggestion 'writable effect'. This is what I meant by :
"... this refers to the effect suede gives when it is clean, enabling you to mark the soft, velvety skin with marks, shapes and therefore words."

Couldn't it simply be that suede effect where if you draw your finter across it leaves a mark as it bends the plush one way and if you run you rhand in the opposite direction it "erases" the effect but not a true and proper process of dyes or such. Maybe you could use velvety nape.
