Italian term or phrase: una città "vicina"

This is the title of an article about a city, and the word "vicina" is used throughout the text.

e.g. è una città “vicina” ai giovani
Una terra che sarà sempre più “vicina” al vostro cuore

My client suggested using "in touch", but it doesn't always work - e.g. in the phrase "Appena scendi dall’aereo già la intravedi, è la città ed è così “vicina”!

"Close" is the best I can come up with, but it sounds awful in some sentences. Does anybody have a better suggestion?
