All’interno spiccano le sale settecentesche, i decori eclettici dell’800 e gli appartamenti nel gusto del primo ‘900. Il parco romantico si estende per 180 ettari, ed ospita il complesso agricolo neogotico della Margaria con le splendide serre. La residenza offre attività culturali, spettacoli, animazioni e mostre.

'È noto che la definizione “delizia” riferita ai luoghi di svago o residenza saltuaria della famiglia d’Este viene coniata successivamente alla Devoluzione del 1598. Nel 1621 Alberto Penna, nella pubblicazione qui riprodotta, elabora una prima definizione di “luoghi deliziosi” riferita appunto ai giardini e alle residenze estensi dislocate intorno alle mura della città, descrivendone le condizioni già critiche di piena decadenza dopo appena un ventennio di dominio pontificio: cancellata l’isola di Belvedere per far posto alla fortezza papalina, abbandonati i giardini come pure gli edifici cui facevano capo, per i “luoghi deliziosi” si avvia subito dopo il 1598 un processo di rapido declino che porterà alla quasi totale distruzione di un notevole patrimonio artistico di cui non rimangono attualmente che alcuni notevoli frammenti.'
