Italian to English translations [PRO] Wine / Oenology / Viticulture
Italian term or phrase:glassati
Referring to vini passiti:
"preparati con la migliore uvetta disponibile sul mercato, lasciata macerare nel vino per alcuni giorni, e poi *glassati* in superficie"

I am not an expert in the field, but I thought it could work as referring to the aspect/patina of the wine
-------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2009-10-19 20:04:39 GMT) --------------------------------------------------
In light of the explanation:
1) frosting for a cake covered with a creamy layer (not transparent)
2) glazing for a cake or torte covered with a glossy, shiny layer like a French fruit tart
3) icing: is usually a white dense decorative paste

The term actually applies to cakes and other dishes, but the idea may be the same.

Actually I had never heard of this strange way of making wine and could not understand what it might mean!
