Pannello 2.4 La villa marittima delle Grotte: la cisterna inferiore
La riserva d’acqua della villa era garantita da due cisterne: una a monte della residenza, servita da un acquedotto di tubi di terracotta proveniente dal monte Orello; l’altra ricavata in alcuni vani del piano inferiore, che forse raccoglieva anche l’acqua piovana. Si tratta di una cisterna articolata in tre *ambienti comunicanti rivestiti di cocciopesto, *un intonaco impastato con frammenti di terracotta che rende impermeabili le superfici. Nella volta dell’ambiente centrale, un lucernaio consentiva l’accesso per le periodiche operazioni di pulizia.
