Sono dispositivi solitamente abbinati al controllo di trazione che, sempre in base ad un calcolo della differenza di velocità delle due ruote, consentono di sfruttare al massimo (senza perdite di aderenza) le prestazioni del motore (erogazione di coppia e potenza) in partenza da fermo e in fase di accelerazione rapida: evitando di far “sgommare” il posteriore e di mantenere l’appoggio del veicolo su entrambe le ruote in accelerazione.
