Schwierig, dieses Wort zu fassen zu kriegen, wenn es nicht Wasserlauf/Flussbett/Wasserbecken bedeutet.
alvei sind auch Höhlen/Grotten, die durch unterirdische Flussläufe geformt werden.

Das macht auch für ägyptische Grabkammern Sinn: "Die Pyramiden wurden in der Nähe des Nils erbaut, so dass die Steinblöcke auf dem Wasserweg dorthin transportiert werden konnten."
